@sedecology@00aleph00 in two dimensions homology and homotopy are very similar and in general they are related but homotopy groups tend to be more complicated.
compare the homotopy and homology groups of the sphere for example.
the main theorem relating them is hurewicz theorem
@TolekcBoleck @Songfortheblind @ArchysLife idk what u want from me i'm just telling you what my gut instinct would be. i would probably assume there's some kind of homeless veterinarian crisis i wasn't aware of.
@bigdybbukenergy like these people slobber over plato but if they saw a modern philosopher writing dialogues on the nature of love they would throw a tantrum.
@bigdybbukenergy i hate that when defending academia people get pidgeonholed into justifying the "value of research" (i.e. does it make money). of course most research doesn't make money but i'm sure i would rather like in a society that rewards intellectual curiosity for its own sake
@TravisMWhitaker@tricyclic02@JeremyTate41 i don't think it's worth arguing with these kind of people - they have no idea what even undergraduate mathematics looks like. it's very easy and fun to have strong opinions about things you don't understand at all cause you never have to worry about being wrong.
