Crazy that not even Bendis (who wrote Avengers for 8 years) was immune to the X-Office method of dragging the Avengers into X-books and mischaracterizing them as ignorant or low-key racist as a cheap trick to hype up the X-Men.
What bothers me so much about this retcon is how absolutely unnecessary it is. At least OMD has a reason behind it. Kieron Gillen just said "Duuuude, what if Tony was adopted by Howard & Maria so they could protect their REAL son from a space robot? 🤣🤣"
If this happens, and Howard is a villain (or at least a dogshit father) through and through. Then I'm taking back 60% of my criticism of Williamson's Iron Man run.
@Ryune_Go@Redavem Thing is, they doubled down on it and made it worse when the next two Iron Man writers (Bendis & Dan Slott) made his new biological mother a part of the supporting cast.
The 2 black sheep of Modern Iron Man runs IMO:
1. Introduces the shitty adoption retcon (that nobody asked for) which plagues Iron Man books for years to come
2. Patient-Zero for the snarky annoying tech-bro/RDJ-ification of Tony
See I don’t even disagree with gamers exhausted with every stealth game having magic sixth-sense vision or trail tracking missions but it’s a bit ridiculous to pick Wolverine of all games as where you draw the line in the sand. It’s Wolverine! Tracking is like his thing!
Not worse than the previous issues but like, this is the 6th howard mention in a row & not a sign of Maria's name in sight
As for the issue itself, meh
I don't care about the new Citizen V, I dont care about anything
Am I supposed to feel that Ghost is in the wrong here lol?
The high ratings for this series start to make sense when you see that every positive review of this series so far is just the reviewer saying some variation of "I'm a Williamson fanboy" or "this is my first Iron Man book" 😭😭
So bland, zero tension, zero sauce, superficial af
This run has zero bite, getting “reformed” Norman involved with Tony and exploring the Dark Reign and thunderbolts era of his madness and doing nothing interesting with it is truly a feat…

Nearly every modern Iron Man writer, dangling a flashback of retro Tony in front of our noses:
Remember him? Remember this guy? You miss him soo much don’t you? Too bad, instead of writing Tony like that again here‘s the worst amalgamation of RDJ and Elon Musk you’ve ever seen!
