if you can and you haven’t already, start building an archive. get a hard drive. save everything - especially thinking about articles on COVID and other research, art and media by and for marginalized people, anything and everything. make it a habit
Some people really want AI to prove that writers aren't needed. If you like writing, if you like reading, if you like words having soul, support writers, not AI. Read articles, click through links, review books, leave comments, share your favorite newsletter, and subscribe to it.
this is the man that built disney animated films by the way. he’s the reason disney is so successful. he died from AIDS before beauty & the beast was released, so they dedicated it to him. he wrote the music for the little mermaid. and this is how they treat him. disgusting.
I would like a TV show where a librarian and a woodworker travel around helping people manage their book collections. Talk about their favorites, which ones are valuable, which ones they might donate, then build shelves and book nooks and libraries to organize them.
Janet Jackson's Janet, released 30 years ago today, embraces the maturity of her sexuality and political identity, and in the process, she creates beautiful music.

"When @JanetJackson named her fifth album, 1993's 'Janet', she was making a bold statement. She was saying that she was Janet, and that was enough. No last names are needed."
The creatives behind #XOKitty did a disservice to the talented young cast, saddling them w/ clunky dialogue, weak direction & offensive adoption tropes. Is it watchable? Yes, but it would've fared better as a pared-down 90-min. film. My latest review👇

Something is suddenly connecting in my brain between the way we want AI to steal existing material to generate remixes, the way fashion the last 15 years has largely been retro returns, and the way studios only want to make sure money on IP. We are afraid of the future.
Can't wait* until all of our "news" is just GAIs repeating and regenerating increasingly factually incorrect information and then learning from that incorrect information to generate more wrong information until we explode in a "what is reality" fireball.
*I CAN wait, forever
I wonder if this quote from the Warhol decision today signals that the Supreme Court will take a similar position in the “Bad Spaniels” trademark dispute involving Jack Daniel’s and VIP Products. Some Justices did not think VIP’s use was a parody of Jack Daniel’s whisky brand.
Got to investigate the rising presence of Thai actors and entertainment, and learned how BL creators have seen major success by drawing inspiration from fan behavior to create content that commodifies shipping culture
This entire case is farcical, and that couldn't have been more obvious in today's arguments. Reporters who are still both sides-ing this situation are doing their audiences just as great a disservice as they would by repeating false claims about vaccines or election fraud
Back up every YouTube content creator/video you like on the internet archive & your own personal hard drives. This is Google telling every YouTuber "We WILL delete your legacy after you die" & I genuinely can't think of anything that fills me with more dread except death itself.
I wonder how many academic institutions lose amazing faculty of color due to the lack of support from administration—From deans to department chairs. Oftentimes, faculty of color are made to feel like we owe everything to the institution when it doesn't even acknowledge us.
