Cedar waxwings are social birds and often feed in large flocks. They have a unique behavior known as 'social feeding' where they will pass berries or other small fruits from bird to bird. This allows them to share food and ensure that all members of the flock are well-fed. It also helps individuals in the flock to establish and maintain social bonds. This behavior is most commonly seen during the winter when food sources are scarce and the birds must work together to find enough to eat. Cedar waxwings are not the only birds that exhibit this behavior, but it is a distinctive and fascinating aspect of their social dynamics.
