Alphas and limas both still require hands on piloting for the duration of the flight. The fact TNNG still has A models tells you about their funding.

Catastrophic mechanical failure, or excessive left pedal and left cyclic during a routine left turn in the clouds while affected by spatial disorientation. The aircraft won’t stop you. It will let you do a barrel roll if you just hold the cyclic over.

When ATC instructed them to turn to heading 270, that would have been a manual turn via pilot input, not the turn of a knob. Add the clouds, perfect recipe for spatial disorientation.

For instance, the fleet of 15 UH-60L that I currently maintain, they are newer, in age, but have very similar technology to the A model.

@Michael85799132 @rdlundquist @skeptic_tweeter @hodgetwins This being a UH-60A manufactured in 1985, it would have been equipped with a standard automatic flight control system, not to be confused with autopilot. It’s basically control smoothing and trim settings. This system does not assist with catastrophic failure.
