Incredibly, just as the solar eclipse today was at its maximum a cloud passed in front of the sun. I grabbed my camera and pointed it through the widow of my living room, didn't even have to get off the sofa! Last photo shows a sunspot too.

I came out of semi-retirement again yesterday to take part in #NewYearPlantHunt and found 48 species in flower in Sidmouth, Devon. Here's a few scenic shots including Gorse at the 'famous' bus stop. @BSBIbotany

One of my favourite finds on my #NewYearPlantHunt yesterday was this Black Nightshade - Solanum nigrum in a beautiful setting by the bins of the Sidmouth Cricket, Tennis and Croquet Club @BSBIbotany

Found this fabulous wall in Sidmouth on yesterday's #NewYearPlantHunt . As well as the usual suspects, Mexican Fleabane, Ivy-leaved Toadflax, and Trailing Bellflower. I also found Pink Persicaria- Persicaria capitata and Mexican Cigar Plant- Cuphea ignea! @BSBIbotany

Yellow Centaury - Cicendia filiformis. Always hard to spot, but worth the effort. Needs full sun, flowers close up at midday and are minute. It's a bit of a challenge to photograph! Seen in the New Forest. #wildflowerhour
