@Advo_Katy In addition, with how prevalent divorce and family issues are, we wouldn't expect the base rate of these incidents to be as low as it is.. The pathway to mass violence is not so simple and asserting it as much is harmful.
@Advo_Katy This is just lazy🥱. 1) Empirical research has asserted repeatedly that there is no "profile" and not all shooters have the same psychosocial life histories. 2) This is not empirically valid--family disruption does not exert a direct effect on this crime...It's far more complex.
So many films from last year — A DIFFERENT MAN, I SAW THE TV GLOW, THE BEAST, THE SUBSTANCE, COMA, LONGLEGS, CHRISTMAS EVE IN MILLER’S POINT — wouldn’t exist in their current form without the works of David Lynch. His influence is incalculable; we’re still living in his world.
David Lynch gave us the language we needed to better articulate the indescribable strangeness of our shared reality. “Lynchian” is so overused because it’s a viscerally understandable word without any known synonyms. I can’t imagine a more beautiful artistic legacy than that.
Friendly reminder that anti-intellectualism is an authoritarian tactic that is used to control a population by robbing people of the tools to understand and solve problems, foster innovation and build up communities. Education gives people power to improve their conditions.
Part of the reason Lynch's death hits so hard is that he was the last American filmmaker before the arts became so thoroughly corporatized that nothing like his work could ever slip through to the mainstream again. There'll never be another Lynch because Lynches aren't allowed.
