Shams: "The Bucks wanted more assets. They wanted a couple of young players - Baylor Scheierman, Hugo Gonzalez - more first-round picks, more swaps... the Celtics were not willing to part with enough young players and assets to get a deal done."
Leave room for any potential fallout from this with Jaylen Brown, because he's now been reportedly offered in multiple trades for stars this decade & spent other summers floating in rumors. But C's do have the ability to secure his future with 2yr, ~$140M extension next month.
Maybe conversations already happened that led to his understanding about where he was at entering & following this trade saga. We've heard reporting that he could be involved in different moves. But this can't be easy for him if he stays. Sure we'll learn more as soon as tomorrow
The Bucks, as we reported last night, have certainly asked for Hugo.
The Celtics, as Bill says, certainly prefer to keep him.
Not exactly a make-or-break element but one of the variables that factors into this Boston vs. Miami struggle.
Regarding Giannis…Celtics are in the mix. Giannis’ camp has indicated he’d sign extension with Boston. But it remains unclear how close the Cs and Bucks are to a potential deal.
UPDATE: One league source, after my story published, told @TheSteinLine that the Celtics emerged from the weekend “with a real shot” to win this race with a Jaylen Brown-centric offer … adding that Milwaukee has considered going ahead even without a third-team facilitator.
