The younger sports fan seems not to resonate with NASCAR in general, regardless of the race length, Pete. They sliced 100+ miles off of gobs of races several years back; if fans wanted shorter races, wouldn't that have led to a surge in viewership? Wouldn't the move to cut race distances have kept the tracks from having to remove seats from the stands?
Every time we're told "this change will allow us to bring in casual sports fans," the end result is a smaller overall fanbase.
Stop chasing, and be unapologetically NASCAR. Hell yeah.
Speaking the truth. Let NASCAR be what it is and not what someone else thinks would grow it. Just don’t ruin the sport for the ones who already love and support it.
They'll start with all the non-jewels and then it'll be "well if every other race is 400 why does Daytona have 500?" This entire argument deliberately misses the actual problem, of course, stages adding twenty minutes per race for NO benefit. Cut out the cancer then we'll talk
We have consistently shifted and changed NASCAR since 2004 in an effort to chase the "newer/casual" fan. And each time a change is made, we take a step further away from the overall relevancy that the sport once had in the sport's landscape.
We need to go back to focusing on the sport itself instead of chasing a mythical group of viewers who could or could not watch based on "x".
Why are people mad? Because clearly you guys are missing the point. If NASCAR gets rid of the stages or Race Control gets its shit together the races will naturally be shorter. I don’t think we should be discussing shorting the length of the races as a means to make the races shorter when there are clearly better options on the table.
The interesting part to me is that all 3 are clean, romantic songs.
Not the "sex sells" slop we've been getting from pretty much every pop star for decades. Despite the social push towards degeneracy, people instinctively prefer real love songs.
To be clear. I'd be fine with going back to 33 races a year. I don't think sawing laps off races is the answer though. And remove the bullshit cautions that eat up 15 laps each. Your resolution is simple. Speed up naturally without wasting time. Used to be. Most caution flags lasted no more than 6 laps anywhere. Unless it was a major situation. That could be done again.
Man.. Love Kyle but I dont agree. Thats part of the lore of Cup racing. The physical and mental toll it inflicts on those who choose to chase its rewards.
Theres something different about that last 25% of a Cup race that separates it from Oreily and trucks
