Had to do a double take here but, yes, there is now an award for ‘client’ journalism. Sadly some news organisations are taking their funded content ahead of sending reporters to major sports events. But, hey, let’s celebrate that while watching colleagues, actual journalists, lose their jobs.
This from @Geoffrey_Cox was titanic - a truly beautiful speech.
He outshone those sat opposite. They could only watch. And nervously laugh.
This should be seen by every new MP to understand what they do, & every new barrister to understand what we do.
It is NEVER acceptable to assault a police officer. I’ve had the privilege to work with some of the best officers in the Met and carry an enormous amount of respect for them.
There are powers to prosecute those who assault emergency workers, police. CPS get your act together @hmcpsi@metpoliceuk@nottspolice
Senior management team @nottspolice be ashamed. An officer gets seriously assaulted an you don’t even fast track a conviction against VC. The SMT are lethargic be proactive protect your cops. You are the laziest senior cops I’ve come across. Disgrace.
Yesterday my wonderful friend Paul Conroy @reflextv died of a heart attack. After years taking pictures and reporting in some of the world’s most dangerous places, he was visiting family in Devon. All of us who knew and loved him are devastated. He was 61.

@ShipleyWrites * prison transport of defendants
* courts being overlisted during trials
* poor or late disclosure completion or evidence issues
* counsel being double booked somewhere
* court facilities and tech problems
* non or partial compliance with court orders
Try getting prisoners to court on time, or ensuring that the existing tech actually works, before you try AI. Do you realise that when footage needs recording for the jury, counsel have to provide memory sticks? You are living in a different world.
BREAKING: UK Gov Legal Dept has written to us on behalf of HMCTS/MOJ asking us to pause deletion of our archive and engage in dialogue about a new licence. We are grateful for the opportunity to resolve it and have replied to confirm retention. More soon #OpenJustice#Courtsdesk
I've written today's Thunderer on Courtsdesk, the archive the MoJ has scrapped.
It mustn't double down out of embarrassment. Every day the system is down is a day court access is curtailed.
Not resolving this would be a choice to undermine open justice.

I can’t search the records by keyword, crime type or court anymore, so journalist access to court records has certainly been affected.
This is simply untrue.
Just because a theoretical right to information exists, you have to know where it is to actually enforce that right.
“Russia will then say, ‘Well, what leg have you got to stand on when it comes to me and Ukraine?’”
Trump has shown Russia that operations like the Venezuela raid could be carried out with impunity, says former Defence Select Committee chair @Tobias_Ellwood.”

Reform have just issued a fresh statement containing the most concerning thing they’ve said in the @nottslive ban saga so far.
They leave the door open to banning “any other media outlet” which they “consider to be consistently misrepresenting” them.
Chilling.
NEW: A teacher physically assaulted and racially abused their adopted children while their partner - a barrister and family court judge - failed to protect them. Yet a high court judge has ruled they cannot be named despite a legal bid led by @TBIJ 🧵 https://t.co/jfCzW6vCAa
This 21st century atrocity is happening in plain sight.
Let us get food in. Lift the blockade. Stop killing civilians. Release hostages. Let reason and humanity prevail.
Demand action. ⬇️
Attempts to disparage and discredit The Atlantic, our editor, and our reporting follow an obvious playbook by elected officials and others in power who are hostile to journalists and the First Amendment rights of all Americans.
“What wretched question have you prepared?” My surreal Q&A with Alexander Lukashenko last Sunday. He claimed his opponents had “chosen” prison or exile (in reality the authorities had chosen to target them.) Thanks @LizaShuvalova@AntonChicherov
