@O42nl Open core software - they’ve always had a communal focus so all the OS stuff is public, while exclusive features (autotrain, inference, etc) are paid
differs from freemium SaaS cuz of the community flywheel: good users can post models, attracting others who add even more value
@ehalm_ Yoo congrats! I’m in a similar position to where you were a few months ago & am stuck on converting a feature into a usable product - what have you been using to create/deploy the frontend?
@chrissyykat yeah portland OR. imo % of “proactive” ppl is ~same, but reactive bay area kids tend to end up at the same place as ambitious portland kids
@itsandrewgao tbf if we consider extinction to be infinite magnitude then there’s no distinction, but it probably shouldn’t be.
e.g. bostrom quantifies the opportunity cost of not funding space exploration at 10^46 humans per century
https://t.co/ZJeDzDys6Y
@itsandrewgao plenty of other issues (climate change, nuclear war, insert your favorite impact from hs debate) are extinction-lvl threats with much higher % than ai or aliens
lowkey ea should tell us to invest in sustainable fuels and elect better presidents
@itsandrewgao same - every aime+ kid I know ended up in a Top 7 school, all of whom are studying cs/physics/other STEM but not math.
goes to show how far the basic problem solving skills you pick up while young can take you
Fact: 7% of humans to ever have lived are alive now.
Modern technology can sustain more humans than the total number of humans born in the first 142,000 yrs of our ~200,000 yr history. By 2035, it’ll be the first 184,000 yrs.
What a time to be alive!

We are the luckiest 1% of 1% of people to ever live in the entire history of humanity.
Anyone putting "progress" in quotes does not realize that life in history was nasty, brutish and short and we are absolutely blessed to live when we live.
Some facts for you.
A thread (1):
There are trillions of dollars of potential value in technologically outdated fields.
Right now, there’s a startup creating CRMs for car washers that just raised a $20M Series B.
There’s a startup providing specialized credit cards for truckers valued at $850M.
What’s next?
Bain Capital Ventures just released their Top 50 Emerging Vertical SaaS Companies List.
The list, company breakdowns, and some highlights are included.

@RewindAI has perfected human memory with AI.
Since launch, they’ve quadrupled their valuation to $350M.
However, their current strategy may hinder their long-term success.
Here’s why:

(7/8) Nonetheless, Rewind seems pretty fun to use.
It uses native macOS shortcuts, and their compression algo ensures that months of data won’t affect CPU performance.
It’s extremely intuitive for casual and pro users - it’s like the Notion of autopilot tools.
