"Whatever runs faster than time faces social barricades." That was the core philosophy of the 𝘔𝘰𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘪 movement, and sums up the life of the band's frontman, Gautam Chattopadhyay. When Gautam Da launched Moheener Ghoraguli in the 1970s, the audience largely rejected them, calling them "hippies." Fast forward to 1995, Gautam Da released the comeback album 𝘈𝘣𝘢𝘳 𝘉𝘰𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘳 𝘒𝘶𝘳𝘪 𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘺 at the Kolkata Book Fair. On the final day, he, along with a group of young musicians, grabbed their acoustic guitars and began walking through the dusty fairgrounds, weaving through the crowd and casually singing "𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘣𝘪 𝘵𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘪 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘺, 𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘺." As onlookers began to pay attention, the trailing crowd gradually began to swell. By the time they reached the exit, hundreds of music lovers had joined them. The procession kept singing the chorus in unison all the way to Park Street.
Gautam Chattopadhyay and 𝘔𝘰𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘪 tasted success much later in their career, and it is tragic that just four years later, in 1999, he left us, leaving behind his musical revolution. He was an artist who never got his due while he was alive.
Yesterday was his birthday.
Thanks,@Mads00108 for the reminder.
