BREAKING: PM not budging.
The Prime Minister told a meeting of the Cabinet:
“As I said yesterday, I take responsibility for these election results and I take responsibility for delivering the change we promised.
“The past 48 hours have been destabilising for government and that has a real economic cost for our country and for families.
“The Labour Party has a process for challenging a leader and that has not been triggered.
“The country expects us to get on with governing. That is what I am doing and what we must do as a Cabinet.”
This morning I sent my letter of resignation to the Prime Minister.
I urge the Prime Minister to do the right thing for the country and the Party and set a timetable for an orderly transition.
South Shields MP, who had already called for the PM to resign following local elections, says she was left “sad, angry, and frustrated” by Keir Starmer’s speech
NEW: Labour MP Catherine West tells @BethRigby
she'll write to colleagues to gauge support for a leadership contest but will not stand as a candidate.
"It's asking for support for the timetable - not for me as a candidate - which tests the temperature in Parliament among Labour MPs".
North Northumberland MP calls on PM to go following crucial speech this morning.
Says he believes “now is the time for the Prime Minister to set a clear timetable for his departure… for the sake of the country”
In 2022 I went to North Shields to see how people were coping in a cost of living crisis.
Back then Keir Starmer said it showed the “reality in Tory Britain”
4 years on I’ve been back to see the same people in Labour Britain.
Has anything changed? https://t.co/81eVtdJbMy

All of us at Newcastle United extend our sincere condolences to Willie’s loved ones.
Our players will wear black armbands during tomorrow’s Premier League fixture with Nottingham Forest in his memory.
"It won’t come in my lifetime, I won’t live long enough, but I am so relieved that it will help future generations to be able to look forward with hope and confidence to a good death," Dame Esther Rantzen shares with @PaulBrandITV her joy at seeing MPs vote in favour of the assisted dying bill
