Hate when the announcers don't even know the rules... Jamal Crawford constantly mentioning Hack a Shaq to Rudy in the final two minutes when it would give possession right back to the Wolves anyways
DII National Champions Gannon made a heck of a run through the tournament, but they have been dominant all season long. Defensively, their opponents have shot just 53.7% on layups all year, per Synergy. They do an exceptional job of simply “walling up” to defend layups. You can tell it is something that is emphasized and implemented in practice. By doing this, you force the offense to finish through contact and make tough shots. As a result, opposing teams shoot a lower percentage and you save your team from fouls. It’s key to close under control, stay fully vertical with the arms, and absorb the contact with the core to stay chest to chest.
Another thing Iowa does so well is using a “Varejão” screen by flipping the angle of the screen. This creates chaos for the defense, often causing teams to miscommunicate or end up out of position in their defensive coverage. In the last two clips of the video, Iowa forces the switch they want to attack in crucial late half/game situations.
Iowa was so fun to watch this year and was among the nation's best when it came to their ball screen and DHO efficiency. Obviously, having Bennett Stirtz as a master manipulator in the two man game is a big factor, but I wanted to highlight something that Iowa’s bigs do so well in their “Get” actions. This “drop dribble” done by Iowa bigs allows Stirtz to maintain separation by keeping momentum and running underneath the ball. From here, he is able to attack his defender in a disadvantaged situation, drive and draw two to the ball, or rise up with space for a shot.
It’s just laughable how “Miami can’t beat HMs, shouldn’t be in the tourney” to “SMU will crush to them” to “oh who cares SMU sucks”
Time to admit the Miami of Ohio RedHawks are a damn good basketball team. One of the most fun teams to watch in the country
Sorry but Shaheen Holloway emphatically exhorting his fans as NC State calls a timeout in a packed Lahaina Civic Center is better for college basketball than anything that happened in Vegas today.
