@KEriksenV2 Some of you are being a bit harsh to the OP. What if the parent in question had Dementia or Alzheimer's? I cared for my elderly mum for 15 years until it got too much for me as she entered the late stages of the disease, she was in care home before passed away 2 weeks ago at 84.

@KEriksenV2 My grandmother died in hospital and when my father went the next morning to collect her things from the home, there was somebody already in her room and when asked he had been there for over a week as they never thought she would be back. Her things in black bags too. 1/2 cont.
