I agree, we shouldn't fall into the cycle of mindless replication of the ideas of our idols, and instead we should take their works as a case study to improve on ours.

Being a starchitect shouldn’t necessarily mean the beginners have to worship them. We can also learn from their mistakes as much as we do from their success. #be904#be904_4#be904_R2#S1W04
I agree, in this day and age we should all try to achieve radical engagement in our designs, to ensure that our designs appropriately tackle the needs and contexts of the site itself.
#BE904#BE904_2#S1W04#BE904R1
our design. Just like radical engagement, where we reframe our approach to design I feel this is very important as we have to move with the times(/end) #BE904#BE904_3#BE904R1#S1W04
I agree, in this day and age, victimisation is also becoming more and more common, especially with the ease of exchange of ideas that came with social media.
#BE904#BE904_2#S1W04#BE904R1
the most important thing that i learn today is that victimisation is a form of justification for self comfort, most of the time both parties are in the wrong

TPS:
Furthermore, we will also try to apply some ideas of sustained optimism, without falling into the cycle of constantly replicating the forms of STARchitects who we may look up to. (2/2)

TPS:
We think that for our next projects we will engage in radical engagement, where we design based on the needs and context of the site, and try to avoid pragmatic acceptance, where we simply blatantly copy from the design of others. (1/2)

R3: I struggled with understanding the idea of cynical pessimism, even though the example of the little girl was given, I still didn't understand how this was applicable to the context of architecture.
#be904#be904_2#be904R3#S1W04
R2: I found this week's lecture to be very enriching and thought provoking, the thought of being under the influence of sustained optimism without even knowing it is quite something to think about.
#be904#be904_2#be904R2#S1W04
R1: instead of just going for pragmatic acceptance, where we design by copying from others, and do not make efforts to push the field of architecture. (2/2)
#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W04
R1: the most important thing that I learnt today was the idea of pursuing radical engagement, I think that it is important to design and form solutions based on the context of the site and location (1/2)

I agree, hence we need not need to focus too much on the originality or the creativity of works and instead should focus on if the design fits the users needs and if the design resonates with the context of the culture of the place.

#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W03
R1. The most important thing i’ve learnt today was that originality is hard to achieve nowadays as the world has evolved so much that even if something is not famous or viral, it is still thought of or made already. Just need thorough research.
I agree, the lecture has also made me less worried about the creativity and originality involved when making designs in the future.
#be904#be904_2#be904R2#S1W03
R2: I found this lecture to be reassuring. Coming into a design based school, i was most concerned about the creativity of a project, how to make the most intricate or unique forms to stand out from the rest..(1/) #BE904#BE804_3#BE904R2#S1W03
R1: The most important thing i learnt today is that originality is not the most important thing to take note of when designing a space. Functionality and user experience is key when designing a space... (1/) #BE904#BE804_3#BE904R1#S1W03
R1: Also when designing a building, an architect has to also understand the essence of that place and create a building that resonates with the culture of that place and not be too focused on achieving originality and creativity.
(3/3)
#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W03
R1: The most important thing that I learnt today is that originality and creativity is no necessarily the most important criteria to focus on when designing a building.
(1/3)
#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W03
R1: This is because, it can be better to take inspiration from the successes of past works, to improve on your own. However this does not necessarily mean that you should simply copy and paste the works of other people.

#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W03
R1: according to associate professor Melonine Bayl-smith, architecture today suffers not because of plagiarism but from an originality syndrome. “When architects do something completely original, they don’t necessarily produce a better building.

I agree, I think that through learning from other designers and discovering what works best, we can indeed improve the quality of lives, without needing to be to focused on creativity.
#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W02
What i realize is that it's not always about the creation. It's about learning, inspiring and discovering. Design, itself, means improving the quality of human's life. Yes, we need to be creative but not all the time.
#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W02
I agree, buildings are like a record of a time period, and people can use them to get a understanding of the design ideals that were present during that period.
#be904#be904_2#be904R1#S1W01
1) If all humans were wiped out,our buildings and architecture are whats left to show our ability and stories. It means that our buildings carry very deep meaning that can be perceived differently by different people of different backgrounds.
