@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes I’ve got to go and do some work now.
Thanks for the conversation, nice to chat with someone who is intelligent enough to not start swearing at as soon as I say something they disagree with. Have a good rest of the day.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes They could be if they got bought by the right owners. I don’t like the concept of aristocracy. Liverpool are the most successful English club, and from my understanding did earn it by being exceptionally well run in the 70s and 80s, and not necessarily outspending everyone.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes And the rules did help to keep Liverpool in the champions league. If other teams had been bought and allowed to spend freely Liverpools experience of their previous owners could have been much worse.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes Imagine how good these clubs could be if they had the ability to spend more money. They would be champions league contenders. As it stands they’ll have a good run, Sell their best players, and have to start again and again and again.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes If the rules are fair, and then broken ie Shadow contracts then punishment should be severe. As long as the TV rights are owned by the League collectively and not individually then the top clubs wouldn’t be able to do that.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes Potential buyers might look at the smaller clubs and want to invest, to grow those clubs, to get a piece of the massive financial pie that is football. At the moment they wouldn’t bother because they’re not allowed to invest.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes There will definitely be some sort of protectionism within those sports. I do concede that something should be done to protect clubs from here today gone Tomorrow sugar daddies, but I think the current rules aren’t fair.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes I think that you have to go one way or the other. You either have to let teams be run like businesses and allow investment or you have to go full egalitarian. Make all teams have the same transfer and wage budget. What we have now is incoherent and unfair.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes Without this mechanism, which works in the real world, clubs who aren’t allowed to invest can’t ever grow. Hence the fucked up state of English football clubs finances.
@Mark_Jones1986@DaveHo1mes The same cartel. The EFL parroted the prem and UEFA rules. Supposedly to create sustainability. But as we’ve seen with last weeks report most clubs are running at a loss or are in debt. In the real world business owners invest in their business to grow it.
