Banking regulations prevent you from assuming more debt than you can payback. In software, there are no regulations. You will bankrupt your systems by continuing to take on more technical debt.
I’m proud to share my new talk on software delivery titled “Knowledge Work 3.0”. The presentation is a blend of 3 books I read earlier this year and my experience taking on a more delivery focused enginnering role back in March https://t.co/7gnUZ0yZpg
I’m a huge fan of infrastructure as code! I’ve use CloudFormation and Terraform the most but my favorites are quickly becoming CDK and Pulumi. Code vs configuration is more enjoyable to me.
My friend @mattjmorrison once told our team:
"If it's hard, do it early and do it often"
I've said this so many times since 2013 that I'm sure my colleagues are tired of hearing me say it.
Doing it often (manually), especially if it's hard, will lead to the desire to automate.
@amann2112 Agreed! That is my step two. I focus on infrastructure as code but if you do infrastructure as code WITHOUT source control, you lose (in my opinion) all the benefits.
The first step in embracing DevOps:
Source control
Being able to version changes to your system, peer review, and built in notes for changes is huge.
Don’t worry about automated deploys. Just ssh to the server and clone the changes.
Tomorrow at 8PM ET / 7PM CT, don't miss our FREE livestream event.
I'll be joined by @RachelCruze and @KenColeman on https://t.co/POULkrg2XM to give you practical advice and HOPE to guide you through this season.
Text HOPE to 33789 for a reminder to tune in!
