@CAL1963AD @guardian The conventional way about thinking about this idea is that you fund the universal payments with receipts from inheritance tax, the scope or rate of which would be expanded. If you scrap the inheritance tax, that would probably increase inequality.
@IstanaAngin@guardian A one time payment, and the idea is that you don't need to work for it. So simple to administer and frees people up (for a bit) to do non-paid work, for example.
@guardian@Robert_Booth it would be really helpful to put this article in its historical context. Not a new idea, reaching back perhaps as far as Thomas Paine. https://t.co/CoT2FNG4D8 Also has been supported on left & right.
@harrym_vids Depending on the detail, it might make sense for manufacturers to spin off ICE production into a separate (corporate) vehicle - GT, M, etc. Small volume, high margin, shared R&D costs by contract.

@DanNeidle I think an argument might be around diversification and international relations. Sovereigns are generally exempt from tax on their domestic investments. An exemption for foreign investments creates neutrality and probably encourages diversification. Closer links, etc.
@katebevan Nightingale for atmosphere, sharing; Le Crocodile for remarkable French food, wine list, in unassuming location; St. Lawrence for innovation / room, although a bit far East; Bao Bei for Asian fusion / dumplings...
Canada reported both its gross and net tax gap for 2014 to 2018. The gross gap is growing, and the net gap is not being reduced. Find out more: https://t.co/32NHzhOb7A

@jonj Really enjoyed the paper, and looking forward to the follow up on regular transfers. I think you may have proved that a taste of honey is worse than none at all. See Robinson, et al, 1967.
