@Ellis_ @Ole_is_right In Europe, tips are only supplemental. In the US tips are the primary income for wait staff. They get below minimum wage otherwise.

@Ellis_ Well the tip is supposed to be based on the performance of the waiter/waitress. Usually 10% is considered average service, 15% is good, and 20%+ is exceptional. But a waiter should not be putting comments about what you tip.
