Lateral cross-over step up;
▪️Movement variability drill that should be included alongside traditional strength exercises
▪️Multi-level & planar exercise that integrates balance & stability
▪️Challenges co-ordination to execute the movement smoothly
This has properly made my day.
Last week: Significant lower back pain, minimal flexion and completely scared to move. ‘Haven’t bent or flexed my back for years as I’m scared it’ll go’ ... ‘I’ve just lived cautiously with it’, ‘don’t really bend it much’ ....
This week:......
Talking to a patient in my 6 month review clinic, his posterior signs were not picked up by #FAST but were represented in #BEFAST .
Is it time to look at the use Nationally of BEFAST, and raise awareness of posterior #stroke symptoms?

@function2fitnes What is the rehab for this, similar to exercise for hip OA? 🤔 I'm fairly new PT and did not learn this at University. I also suspect I have a mild hip dysplasia that was missed as a baby.
Patients often want 3 things when they come to see you...
1️⃣ to LISTEN to their issues and problems!
2️⃣ to EXPLAIN what you think is the cause of these!
3️⃣ a PLAN to help these issues and problems get better!
It can be difficult but it’s not impossible! https://t.co/MOL767OvTp
Can icepacks (cryotherapy) benefit patients with knee OA? 🤔
➡️It appears not
Read the #openaccess paper here: https://t.co/4MaJepl2Zd
✅ Plenty of evidence showing the benefit of exercise-therapy and education for patients with knee OA though
Here are three resources we have put together to support engagement in strength training for key population demographics;

Great #APA lecture on Clinical reasoning in complex cardiorespiratory patients. Very useful as I rotate into the ICU next week. Some fantastic guidelines coming out the UK for the cough assist machine 👌
One of the most important, and easiest recovery strategies we can affect.......if you are someone who sleeps significantly less than 8 hours as a norm, then the message is simply a little bit more may help, you may not need to try to get up to 8 hours necessarily.
Excellent idea for squat progression.
✅ feels safe for those less confident
✅ tactile feedback
✅ progressable
✅ can load up at modified depth
✅ encourages optimal line of action for hips
✅ taps into existing motor skills around STS
Love it, Lee.
Brain waves generated during deep sleep appear to trigger a cleaning system in the brain that clears out toxins associated with Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases, a new study finds.

Presented this #Cochrane SR in a journal club. Most significant conclusion for my practice is that exercise and manipulations for neck pain resulted in similar improvements in patient outcomes. Great to see good quality evidence supporting this movement towards #exercise therapy
Dignity around death, something I think we should all learn through our training. Grateful to be able to attend this lecture at work this week. Reminders that we are treating a person, not just a condition
One of the best things about working for a big tertiary hospital - Grand medical rounds!
Great talk today on "Keeping Prisoners Alive".
I found this slide provided the most perspective, things to consider when we think about the life our patients lead before being incarcerated
Fantastic news! Home based exercise program improves balance in patients with PD! Something I will be keeping in mind when I discharge my PD clients from an inpatient setting.
People with #ParkinsonsDisease gain similar benefits from a #physiotherapist-prescribed home-based exercise program as from a centre-based program. @JPhysiother
