Thrilled to announce our new paper in @PNASNews!
Do the moral values people endorse change with the seasons 🌤️?
My co-authors and I present evidence that suggests (for some moral values) the answer is yes. https://t.co/MM03tNIHzq
Contrary to chilling effects, displaying IP locations may NOT reduce incivility. Our study suggests that IP locations, which seem apolitical, may signal ideological identities, fueling group identification and facilitating intergroup behaviors (e.g., uncivil name-calling).
Why does out-group animosity go viral, even though most people say they don't want it to go viral?
@g_heltzel finds that extreme partisans (who engage more with politicians online) prefer tweets that express out-group animosity, but moderates don't:

Woot! My lightning talk pitch to the #JournalismAI Festival was accepted! I'll show how @WillJettinghoff and I pit ChatGPT against Claude to see which one is better at standardizing inconsistent company names.

Has anyone else experienced the OSF website saying that they *modified* a document that they merely *viewed*? I *viewed* a pre-reg PDF yesterday, and today it's telling me I modified that doc yesterday. But I didn't even download it, or upload a new doc.
How can we humans verify the truthfulness of LLM outputs (or any claims you see on the Internet)? Should we ask ChatGPT (#LLMs)? Search on Google (retrieval)? Are they complementary?

You can (& must) award tenure to exactly One of them.
ALL of A's pubs are on the same topic.
NONE of B's pubs are on the same topic.
To whom would you award tenure?

Honestly, I think the angle in this
@Nature editorial is a mistake. We can/should see through the LLM facade using theory (formal, computational, cognitive) and not to dissolve in further hyperempiricism that only gives false credibility to these decoys. https://t.co/avNlNCrsIh
This summer, three students are joining the Investigative Journalism Foundation through the University of British Columbia’s Data Science for Social Good program.
