Thrilled to announce our new paper in @PNASNews!
Do the moral values people endorse change with the seasons 🌤️?
My co-authors and I present evidence that suggests (for some moral values) the answer is yes. https://t.co/MM03tNIHzq
Excited to share our paper in @PNASNexus, with @ProfJessTracy, Nick Rule, & Laura Tian! We show that the muscles people use to pose a smile—and the intensity of those activations—reveals personality, enabling others to form accurate personality judgments.

Does materialist science destroy existential meaning? @Ian_Hohm, @LiminusVisuals, and I argue here that yea, it does. But that doesn't mean you have to choose between science and meaning ...https://t.co/D9g6f3o3Pw

Super excited to announce our new paper in @PNASNews! @ProfJessTracy, @FriedrichMGoetz, and I analyzed all US senators' tweets from 2013-2021 and found that tweets discussing greed in society receive greater support and spread more widely
Very excited about this paper!!
We argue that seasonal effects are important. We review some of the diverse literature on seasonal effects, outline a conceptual framework for thinking about them, and give practical suggestions for studying them.
🌸☀️🍂❄️
@Ian_Hohm and I (with our fantastic advisors) have spent the last few years working on this review on the significance of seasons in human behavior and cognition. Now accepted at PoPS, you can read the preprint here: https://t.co/Vx8TIoG0f7
My @TEDTalks on why we moralize effort is now up. Based on work w/ @pkpiff (who gets a cameo), @BizarroPolitix, @gregoryscience, Hyunjin Koo & led by @JaredCelniker. Thanks to TED (who chose against my suggested title: Working in the Age of Effort Porn) https://t.co/wZL3j6rQl5
This study🤯Tracked tax records from Florence, Italy in 1427 (before Leo DeVinci was born) and matched them with descendants in 2011. Descendants of the richest decile are 12% wealthier than descendants of the poorest decile. Wealth inequality inherited across 600 years!
This paper argues that the massive modularity debate is confused, ill-posed, and based on the most fundamental misunderstanding one can have in psychology: a confusion about the level of reduction (or analysis) at which one is approaching the mind.

Surprised by this level of arbitrariness? Don’t be. Discretion is the silent killer in our justice system, and it haunts every step—from decisions to arrest, if/how to charge, bail, plea offers, peremptory challenges of jurors, and, of course, sentencing👇 https://t.co/hpaXBIh4Wl
New in Emotion! Congenitally deaf adults' vocalizations of fear, disgust, + 5 other emotions were recognized at better-than-chance levels, suggesting that emotion vocalizations "are shaped by specialized innate mechanisms that guide learning"! https://t.co/ywOFS8wf2L
Analysis: If the US were less relationally mobile--on par with Japan--coronavirus deaths would have been just 8.2% the actual number. https://t.co/4GZnXG3xSH
My latest piece is out today in @AreoMagazine. It’s on the crucial distinction between the proximate and ultimate levels of analysis -- and the utility of that distinction for psychology.
Hope you find it interesting.

"Henrich argues that kinship intensity does not just describe or predict psychological variation, it explains it."
@ajmackiel's review of @JoHenrich's new book which is likely to become _the_ foundational text of cross-cultural psychology 👇

We've seen lots of comparisons between countries and U.S. states on distancing measures to reduce disease spread - but how do we measure up to other species? (Worse than ants, but better than Tasmanian Devils.) See interview on my new co-authored paper: https://t.co/FpT8pocsmy
Even if told it means fewer patients surviving, 50% of the US believes that scarce ventilators should NOT be preferentially allocated to the young and those with the best chance of recovery. https://t.co/IfnqdW1L48
