@naderalihashemi@OwenJones84@DannyPostel@jkeaneSDN@sarahleah1@CornelWest@MonicaLMarks It depends on which answer to what. She is the short term answer to Trump. To save a faulty, fragile democracy before veering to fascistic autocracy. She is not the answer to save American democracy. That will take massive change, more than her, including at SCOTUS and Congress.
@joshua_landis The question is very confusingly worded and reported and contradicts the data in the graph. Among several issues it doesn’t distinguish between running out of one food item (supply chain, price spike…) and not having enough food to eat. I suspect this is protest more then penury
@naderalihashemi@MouinRabbani@mehdirhasan@sarahleah1@tparsi@AymanM It’s not an Israeli proposal. It’s the same updated Egyptian Qatari American proposal we’ve been seeing since February. Agreed to by both Israel (at least twice) and Hamas (at least once) in various forms and iterations. Now Biden is trying to outflank Netanyahu by going public
@dstroul 3/ If you take Israel out of that list Egypt Qatar and the US are coordinating extraordinarily well. Israel was hoping Hamas wouldn’t take the deal. Hamas called their bluff. That actually creates an opportunity to stop the carnage
@dstroul 2C/ Only massive pressure on both sides at the same time can end the carnage. Get the hostages out. Save lives. Start the political changes on both sides they make sustainable solutions possible. Pressure is increasing. It’s not quite enough yet.
@dstroul 2A/Israels theory of the case is dead wrong. They have likely killed dozens of hostages and have freed hostages only through negotiations. They are deceiving themselves. The problem is both Israel and Hamas have convinced themselves they’re winning.
@dstroul 2B/ They have both convinced themselves that they need to concretize their victory at the negotiating table or wait until further military “victories” forces their opponent into some version of submission (“permanent” ceasefire vs agreeing to continued war after hostage release)
@dstroul 1/Hamas information strategy and positioning has nothing to do with whether they are a terrorist organization. It actually deeply resembles that of non terrorist parties to conflict and negotiations.
@JYSexton@naderalihashemi No. That’s not what happened. Romney said stupid stuff as he is wont to do and Blinken the invitee didn’t disagree. There is so much bad stuff happening we don’t have to grasp at straws to find things to criticize.
@MonicaLMarks I respectfully disagree. Their statements do not say what he said they said. Their statements may be hard and firm but they are within the bounds of international law and do not justify the killing of civilians or terrorism. They are referring to legitimate armed resistance
@aliasflayou@JMJalel_H Let me give it a stab. Emiratis interfered by supporting a corrupt autocrat with a terrible human rights record, bankrolling his militia army attacking other Libyans more than ISIS, and Turks helped defend pro democratic forces of the internationally recognized government.
