Growing up in Moncton, Mr. Irving WAS the Wildcats. I may not be a freelancer now if he doesn't allow the Cats to not only survive but thrive 30 year ago. They were my hometown team and my first opportunity. Hopefully there's a place in the QMJHL Hall of Fame for this man. #RIP
Sad news this morning.
@monctonwildcats owner, Robert K. Irving, has passed away.
He did so much for the Wildcats and the City of Moncton.
Our condolences to Mr. Irving’s family and to the Wildcats.

One of the most unassuming billionaires you will ever meet (not that I've met many). Hosted the Wildcats golf tournament a few years back. Sat down at a table for breakfast across from a guy in a ball cap and lumber jacket. Asked if he worked for the team. He smiled and said "Yup." We had a nice chat about golf, then someone came over and said, "Mr. Irving they want you downstairs." Choked on my muffin. I'm such an idiot. He was a nice man. And built a first class hockey team.
@DanRTSN About a dozen years ago, my wife and I caught a cab from a Barcelona hotel to the cruise ship pier. The car was a Skoda. I made this joke.
Men of intellect, unite!
So sad. Paul was so knowledgeable about hockey and loved to help young defencemen level up. He was so excited about his new training venture with David Savard the last time we were in touch a few weeks ago. He always worked words of support into every conversation. Rare quality.

The way Habs fans embraced Dach in person is another reminder that social media is not real life, and is not an accurate cross section of society (certainly no longer, if it ever was). Most people are good and decent. This place often makes us think otherwise.
We have sent a notice to cease & desist to the Milwaukee Brewers.

@AddictSox That one at bat will forever leave me with a deeply conflicted opinion of JD Drew. It's almost easier to pretend somebody else hit that HR. Maybe Bobby Kielty in a JD Drew mask or something.
CHL News – Sounds like the OHL + QMJHL are working towards a four team, inter-league series between the Guelph Storm + Kitchener Rangers vs the Moncton Wildcats + Halifax Mooseheads for next season.
Still some hurdles but getting there.
