“Pride was never just a celebration. It was people with everything to lose, refusing to be silent.”
@JamieWhistle’s barn burner of a speech to the California Assembly Judiciary Committee.
In 2023, Jamie spoke out, knowing what it would cost, because children were being harmed.
Now SB 934 would silence the next clinician who wants to help a child accept their body, or ask about trauma, autism, or sexual orientation.
Pride was born from courage.
SB 934 is born from fear: fear of questions, fear of dissent, fear of admitting that gay and autistic kids are being medicalized instead of understood.
@Phill48399214@PatrickChristys Neither Johnson nor Sunak partied as well you know. The civil servants of all political persuasions did though - they should have been sacked.
@linmeitalks The poles are grafters, they came to work and undercut British workers sending the money home and utilising our health and welfare systems for their families. Most went back to big houses in what is now a thriving economy owing to huge EU subsidies.
I no longer support pride.
I attended many events back in the day, events full of colour, humour, solidarity and celebration. It’s no longer a festival, it’s been hijacked just like the flag, and it makes me sad.
@KenSkatesMS You might be Ken but lots of us LGB types take the view that it’s had its day. We achieved equality and live our lives happily in our communities safely protected by the equality act.
Happy Pride Month!
We have come a long way in LGBTQ+ rights, but there are still threats to the community - we as Young Liberals continue to fight for LGBTQ+ rights - as they are human rights.
@PeterTatchell LGB here - we achieved equality.
Then then alphabet soup arrived and queered our pitch. I can use that word because I’m gay and they use it.
