March 10, 2016. The Economist runs “Free trade” — share-trading joins the list of ostensibly free online services.

The illustration is signed Satoshi Kambayashi. Brighton illustrator. Economist artist since 2001. He draws finance as a joke that still lands. Green icon. Red Robin Hood hat. Yellow feather. Speech bubble holding a stock certificate marked $. He put the thief’s hat on free trade and signed his first name under it.

Same day, Snoop Dogg posts that exact image:

“Team @RobinhoodApp dont stop till they hit tha top.”

Snoop wasn’t a random reply guy. He was already an early Robinhood investor. He didn’t invent the drawing. He pointed at it and told the team not to stop.

Kambayashi made the character.
Snoop dropped the ticker.
