@nikicaga Reproducibility means that given the same data, code, and methods as the original study, the same results are generated by a third party. This means they had something wrong with their math or code.
@aakashgupta This is exactly why the Toyota Production System, better known as Lean, emphasizes the importance of going to the gemba (i.e., where the work is done). Metrics + observation = the full picture. Go see real work, otherwise you’re missing part of the equation
@unusual_whales The purpose of our type of govt is to create a system of checks and balances. They shouldn’t have unilateral control—nobody should. But, they should probably have some influence so that politicians get outside their bubble
@fuckyouiquit Tax this, tax that, tax tax tax. Always ignoring the spending problem. It’ll never be enough no matter how much we tax if we never address spending
@BladeoftheS Don’t you think we’re the wealthiest country because of the system we have? I would argue several of the example you listed we do quite well in, but probably not the best
@GunnelsWarren@washingtonpost The government’s answer to every problem is more money. People, including those who have objectively been better at managing money and resources à la successful business people, are sick of this attitude. You can’t throw money at a broken system
@caloriesproper2 People don’t realize how hard it is to burn a “calorie.” If I remember back to a bioenergetics class properly, trained marathoners are only burning 2600ish. Yet I see friends post their Apple Watch stats saying 700 cals for their mediocre lift
@Mangan150 How many VO2Max posts have you suffered through in the last few days, PD? I’m encountering way too many posts by Drs trashing the metric as having no evidence of improving longevity. Pretty ignorant on their parts. Not sure why they put the blinders on so hard
@Adyksterhouse Please define ‘exist’? Yes they’d be affected negatively, but I’d argue most of IL is better situated to ensure economic downturn because they produce the essentials for life. Such as food and energy. Whereas Chicago would absolutely not survive without rural help via food mainly
@DrDiGiorgio I agree. I think the EHR orgs are incentivized to do this. Customization = $$$
Furthermore, all the new rating systems (any stars measures) have slightly different requirements that require slightly different documentation standards. Providers are put in an impossible position
@chicagobars Someone below also mentioned the incompetence this exudes. A lot of billion dollar companies have left IL in the past decade, showing a systemic problem with IL politics. I think IL has $250bil in unfunded liabilities for pensions. We can’t close that gap like this
@chicagobars I think your assessment is short-sighted. The lost events are a component of a larger equation. Will the Bears also move their headquarters out of Lake Forest? 20 years of events, property taxes, taxing game checks, construction and other jobs, etc. isn’t chump change
@OpenNYForAll This is a crazy take. Have you ever been in a rural area? It’s actually green lol. Stop worrying about carbon and start thinking about pollution, toxins and unnatural places like cities are bad for the environment
@cremieuxrecueil The downsides are bigger than the upsides for this ask. Controling information is what got us the most oppressive institutions this world has seen in recent history
