A TEMPORARY exhibition, “Frogs of Zambia” at the Livingstone Museum, reveals that frogs have been used in pregnancy tests. The exhibition also reveals that frogs are bio-indicators of the environment, in that their absence can suggest water pollution from mercury or lead.

So I had an idea. Hospitals should be required to give every new parent a pamphlet on baby safety. It should include everything from “don’t leave your baby on a changing table” to “don’t give honey to children under the age of two,” to “don’t give babies water.” There’s a lot of basic stuff that people don’t know, and aren’t necessarily going to be taught, even in a parenting class.
