@GovAmyKlobuchar my sense is that this is survivable, but it's going to require a kind of actual, principled commitment to reforming gender roles/norms
@LokiJulianus I'm not supportive of invoking ITAR generically for any given model above some threshold, but this is great if only for hamartetic reasons / the laughs
@charlesthefool@atlanticesque I don't know why it is that you think this contradicts what I'm saying. yes, Ant favors more regulation, OAI less
the feds aren't doing this because they come down on one side or the other on that. they're doing it because Ant signaled they would obstruct functions of the State.
@charlesthefool@atlanticesque it happened to them *because* they signaled they would kneecap themselves *intentionally* as a means of veto over the State. that's the whole point. OpenAI has signaled exactly the opposite.
@charlesthefool@atlanticesque I'm not describing Dario plans to be made God King. I'm saying they claim to be building a technology that will define the balance of power for the next century, then expecting they can determine the lawful use of that technology over and above legitimate officers of the State.
@charlesthefool@atlanticesque the treatment they are receiving is not so much about their existing level of capabilities, but rather their stated and revealed intent to usurp the functions of the State
@LokiJulianus I'm not supportive of invoking ITAR generically for any given model above some threshold, but this is great if only for hamartetic reasons / the laughs
@atlanticesque my only rejoinder here is much the same line of reasoning applies in favor of some capacity for retreating to encourage the health of the state
