The Real-Life Experiences Behind Yang Chaoyue's Portrayal of Zheng Yu

Yang Chaoyue's parents divorced when she was just 12 due to financial difficulties. As an only child, she stayed with her father, whose health wasn't good either.

In an interview, her father once said, "The divorce had such a great impact on her...". Unable to bear seeing her father struggle alone, she gave up continuing her education after middle school and started working. She took various jobs, from waitressing to factory work, even injuring one of her fingers in a factory accident. She was also scammed a few times while trying to make a living.

Hoping for better opportunities, she eventually moved to shanghai alone at a very young age. Life was incredibly difficult. There were days when she barely had enough to eat, yet she always told her parents she was fine and continued sending money home, even when she had almost nothing left.

I think one of the biggest similarities between Yang Chaoyue and Zheng Yu is that they both had to grow up too quickly, become independent at a young age, and carry family responsibilities while facing financial struggles.

Their lives aren't identical, but perhaps Yang Chaoyue's own experiences allowed her to understand Zheng Yu on a deeper level and portray her struggles with such sincerity and emotional depth..
