“Mom is alive”: the son of a Russian climber pleads for rescue on Peak Pobeda.

Russian mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsyna has been lying for two weeks at an altitude of 7,200 meters with a broken leg in –23 °C conditions.

Russian propagandists have already declared her dead, though she may still be alive. Kyrgyz rescuers also called off the operation, saying she had perished, but her son Mikhail insists otherwise.

He appealed to Russia’s prosecutor general, the Foreign Ministry, and the ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, publishing a video allegedly showing his mother waving from a tent a week after contact was lost. Mikhail insists she is experienced, resilient, and may still survive.

The situation is critical: supplies are gone, and she lies on a sharp ridge where no one has ever been evacuated before.

A previous rescue attempt already cost the life of an Italian climber.

The weather “window” will close in two days, after which any operation will be impossible.
