Weird windows of thoughts and memories when it’s quiet. Looking out at the sky from a different place now, looking at that sky, moon, and stars. And I still don’t have an answer to teenage me’s questions. EOM.
Thinking back… way back… I remember looking up into the sky and wondering who else was doing the same thing at the same time, and whether fate connects those people. … The only take away from those cold nights… you just have to believe it to be so.
I really wish… though.. someone did come and pull me out of my stupor. My completely inwardly focused mindset and just said… “hey! Don’t you see the beauty around you right this moment…?” But that wouldn’t have be enough. It is hard to see it when everything resets each night
I don’t think that the younger version of me would have been able to understand the learnings I have attained since then. Everything seemed so impossibly epic back then.. dramatic and world ending. Like weathering a storm every day. He needed a port.
There are many days and nights when… I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self what awaits in the future… that he can let go of all those weights he held in his heart. But looking back… I also realize… he would have wanted me to take him with me.
More recently, was walking past some music store.. maybe radio… and heard a sad song. It’s called “Two Birds” by Regina Spektor. I can certainly relate to one of those birds. Having spent my life not letting go of that wire.
Another time on that same hill, I was wondering why the world sucked so badly… relative to that time frame and my point of view. Why so much was unfair in the world. Years later… I better understand the reasons and causes. But it still sucked.
This was on a hill in Southern California, grassy and windy. Overlooked a park and next to a small musuem building showcasing the area’s history as a fruit orchard. Some night, friends were there chatting and I momentarily thought back to those times I looked up alone. 20/20…
Hm... Google wants to put GPU data centers... in space. https://t.co/8KikjroapR
I feel a bit bad for the astrophysicists who will be dealing with this massive IR exhaust that will blur/impact imagery of deep space... or all the terrestial astronomers...
@brobeznik@nickaturley omfg... wait wait wait... 'GPT-4o' is just "branding"? I'm pretty sure I was informed by both the OpenAI docs and example code that I had the ability to actually select a specific model... to avoid disruptions to service. But.. it thinks it is "branding"... huh...
@_EdgeOfTheWeb@nickaturley Same here. Several times the system warned me about various forms of ideation and to get help... because I inquired about fuel ratios and explosive forces to account for...
I basically feel like I have at least one person hovering over my shoulder all the time.
@nickaturley 4/And these... model switches, are they logged so that the paying customer will get visibility into if/when their requests are being processed differently? Is usage still being charged at the originally requested model's weights? Since the inference didn't use said model?
@nickaturley 3/If these are 'features' then by all means, please document them so that paying users can configure the stack so that it makes the most use out of the paid for service. Let users having control and repeatability be a feature.
@nickaturley 2/If OpenAI is improving things, fine. But you're beta testing guardails... that is why you would have a budget for beta testing. Why am I paying a monthly fee to essentially beta test, find bugs, or have pipelines fail when, for reasons, OpenAI shunts to weaker models?
@nickaturley@nickaturley 1/Creating a stable, responsive, and trustworthy solution using LLM based systems is already... extra work, given the nature of the tech. Having the behaviour changed out under without warning means I would be hard pressed to guarantee I can ever deliver consistency.
