When I was a little girl, my dad told me the story of Alade. I was too young to understand it then, but now I do. Alade was a very successful trader in a village, he had many wives and children and lived a very happy and life.
I miss the possibility.
I miss the man who believed in a future I couldn't see.
Do you think leaving a broke partner is practical...?
Or did I give up too soon?
I left my boyfriend because he was broke.
Three years later, he became a millionaire.
And yes, I regret it every day.
When we dated, he was always talking about business ideas.
Always planning.
Always dreaming.
He was engaged.
To a woman who stood beside him through the hardest years.
A woman living the life I once imagined for myself.
People think I miss the money.
I don't.
