JUST IN: The world just lost fertiliser supply from both directions at once.

The Strait of Hormuz is blocking shipments.

China just blocked replacement supply.

Two gates. Same molecule.

Beijing has ordered exporters to halt overseas shipments of nitrogen and potassium fertilisers.

Urea. NPK blends.

The inputs that feed the world are now trapped behind:

• A 21-mile waterway under military control
• A government directive from Zhongnanhai

One physical choke point.
One political choke point.

One-third of global seaborne fertiliser trade moves through Hormuz.

China is the world’s largest fertiliser producer.

Now both are offline in the same month.

There is no third supplier at this scale.
No backup to the backup.

Urea prices already surged ~40% on the Hormuz disruption alone.

• CBOT March: 610.50
• NOLA peak: $683

That was before China.

Now a second floor is locked in.

Even if Hormuz reopens tomorrow → supply doesn’t normalize.

Even if China lifts the ban → ships still can’t pass.

These systems are independent.

Both gates must open.

China’s move is simple:

Protect domestic agriculture.
Let the rest of the world absorb the shortage.

Same pattern:

• Phosphate exports restricted
• Discounted Iranian crude flowing
• Strategic reserves being drawn

Everything points one way: China first.

The US farmer is now trapped.

• Gulf supply → blocked at Hormuz
• Chinese supply → blocked by policy

Domestic production (~75%) assumed imports.

That gap is now unfillable within the planting window.

USDA already sees the shift:

• Corn: 94M acres ↓
• Soybeans: 85M acres ↑

Less corn → tighter feed → higher protein prices.

The cascade is mechanical:

Corn → Feed → Meat → Eggs → Dairy → CPI

The crisis didn’t start with China.

Hormuz created the shock.

China just removed the exit.

Meanwhile:

• Oil spiking
• War expanding
• Energy infrastructure offline
• Freight + insurance dislocated

And now fertiliser—the base layer of food—is constrained.

Two gates.
One molecule.
No alternative.

Four weeks until planting decisions lock in.

After that, yields are no longer a policy choice.

They’re chemistry.

It is completely irresponsible to allow a country that feeds and powers the world to get into a situation where we may need to pull up trucks because we have a fuel shortage…

And you still have to work and get only 50% of your earnings?
