there's infinitely more to talk about, share, and feel, but I will leave it here for now. check up on your friends, I'm glad I was able to look back at things with minimal regrets.
thank you.
hasn't completely hit me that tomorrow (June 9th) will be the last life service update to Destiny 2.
I've been playing Destiny since I was 16 (do the math, i'm old) and it was my first real experience with a looter/console shooter. I couldn't get into borderlands at the time and I basically only used my console for things like Ratchet & Clank, Kingdom Hearts, and other single player experiences. I didn't grow up with Halo or COD either, I found myself playing Tribes/Quake/TF2 more at the time.
Summer of 2024, I was watching ProfessorBroman stream the D1 beta on twitch. He was doing the devil's lair/servitor strike and I fell in love instantly. Had no idea if I'd even like the game or when it would release, but a couple days after it released, I ended up getting it for the PS4. I was blown away, it was an incredibly unique experience at the time, but I found myself wanting to quit super early on because progression after completing the story/level 20 was... rough. I had no idea what to do, I wasn't even high enough for the nightfall, didn't know what strange coins were, definitely couldn't do a raid and didn't know about lfg, and so I found myself playing pvp every now and then. Streams like poshy, aegabriel, triplewreck, and others were the main places I'd frequent and while I was terrible at the time (1.3KD), it was fun.
It wasn't until my childhood friend, Talha, basically took me through vault of glass in lfg a week before dark below released. If it wasn't for him, I'd probably just go back to playing MMOs, but it pushed me to get a mic, start lfging, investing more and more into the game and trying week after week to get Gjallarhorn & Hawkmoon.. which famously I didn't get until HoW from the free exotic in prison and a silver tier reward package from Vance/Trials first week.
I took a lot of breaks from D1. HoW, TTK drought, and end of ROI (especially with OW coming out), but I only have fond memories of the game.
If it wasn't for Talha, I probably wouldn't have invested as much as I did into the game, and by extension, I probably would've gone back to overwatch shortly after D2 dropped on PC, but I'm really glad I didn't.
He ended up passing away late 2024, and it sucks that both of the games we enjoyed playing are EoS, but I'm really glad I gave the game a chance. Never expected to be here 12 years later, never expected to be playing as long as I have, to meet the people I did, to pursue content creation, to.. do a lot of things.
Lots of strong opinions over the years, but I will never take away from the fact that Destiny changed my life. I will miss this game.
side note, if we ever had beef or I said something on stream (or anywhere) that irked you, please DM! I'd rather talk things out than pointless grudges being carried this late into things.

@LesbianEstrella honorable mentions (inhumanly possible to include everything) I don't really rememb grav being insane on pc at least until go fast update/warmind buffs i.e. sunshot/grav lance/vigilance wing
