As a fandom, I think we’re tired of being used and gaslit too. We’re constantly dismissed as “bots” or a “cult.” We’re reduced to stereotypes like “teenage girls”, “lonely old hags”, and “purple whales.”

There’s nothing wrong with being a teenager, older, or overweight. The problem is that those labels are used to diminish us and to imply our opinions matter less simply because we’re a fandom made up largely of women. It’s an easy way to dismiss millions of our voices without engaging with what we are actually saying, yet awards shows like The Grammys will use the hell out of us for views & promo knowing damn well what the end result will be.

I honestly don’t think the tannies want us used anymore either. I think both of us are tired of the xenophobia, racism, sexism and misogyny. This is one of the many reasons why I stand with them and I believe in them.

The fact that the Recording Academy people sat in a boardroom, looked at the most culturally, linguistically and musically diverse continent on Earth, and concluded that the solution was to throw everyone into one "Asian Pop" category is exactly why this deserves criticism.

And then to turn around and say this category was created to "bring us closer" is ABSURD. Segregation has never brought people closer. Separate categories don't create equality, they create separate standards of recognition.

Expressing disappointment in BTS for refusing to legitimize that system completely misses the point. If one of the biggest Asian artists in history says, "We don't want to be separated from everyone else," maybe the response should not be to accuse them of chasing press.

No one is saying Asian artists deserve less recognition. They're saying they deserve the exact same opportunity to compete for the industry's highest honors without being boxed into a category based on geography or ethnicity.

If your first instinct when discussing an entire continent is to create a separate lane instead of removing barriers from the main one, then you've fundamentally misunderstood what inclusion is supposed to look like.

it takes an incredible amount of courage, even sadness, to realise that a dream is no longer a dream because its very foundation is rotten.

some people spend their entire lives chasing something, and when they finally discover it’s built on prejudice, unfairness, and flawed values, they don’t know how to walk away. BTS did.

I deeply admire their strength to let go of something they once dreamed of because they recognised it no longer represented what they believed in. they could have won their first grammy, but they chose integrity, conviction, respect for music and their peers instead.

I don't think people fully understand the magnitude of this decision.

Some of the music industry's most respected producers, writers, engineers, and creatives worked on ARIRANG. A project built to the highest artistic standard. One producer even spoke publicly about hoping the album would receive Grammy recognition.

Then the Recording Academy introduced a category specifically for Asian pop.

And BTS chose not to submit.

Think about that. The biggest musical project of the year. One of the strongest commercial and artistic contenders. A project that could have competed across multiple major categories. It simply won't be in the race because the artists chose principle over prestige.

Moves like this don't happen often. When artists at BTS' level willingly walk away from the biggest stage in music, the conversation shifts because of what they refused to endorse.
