and as someone who LOVES more than words, i like this theme of unconventional found families that may not make sense to the outside world being explored in more depth. he honestly has me excited for what he has in store for the future! can’t wait to see more of his work
with more than words and soul mate behind his belt, hashizume shunki is honestly on a fast track to become one of my favorite directors . i love the way he tells stories and the stories he chooses to tell.
you can see that he was in a way inspired by more than words when working on the script for this movie, but focusing more on the relationships between the main couple, whereas more than words highlighted mieko and makki’s friendship more
it gives me a sense of enormous joy knowing that though kanau may never get to know johan directly, she will know him through his stories. her uncle johan, who found solace and peace in manga, left behind his own illustrated story to comfort kanau when life gets rough

devoured this in a day and i’m so impressed! such an amazing story of two people’s lives intertwining in the most beautiful way. i hate how bittersweet the ending is, but i always have to remind myself that having such a special connection with someone is already a gift in itself
