Today’s sessions engage the National Government, County Government, and the private sector. SAPA and SAGE activities will continue throughout the week to strengthen collaboration and enhance management of the protected area under the Hifadhi Blu Programme.
Mombasa Marine Protected Area, in partnership with hosts Haller Park and Lafarge Ecosystems, successfully conducted SAPA (Social Assessment for Protected Areas) and SAGE (Social Assessment on Governance & Equity) sessions with representatives from BMUs and boat operators.

Coral Garden Conservation's recent micro-project in the St Félix VMCA successfully trained locals and fishers to safely cull 77 coral-eating Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS).
Mitsamiouli–Ndroudé MPA, with Coral Garden Conservation & Varuna AMP, trained 15 locals and deployed spiderframes. ~150 coral colonies transplanted so far, with more planned—a scalable, locally owned reef restoration model for the WIO.

The Reef Resilience Network is offering a fully funded, in-person training opportunity—"Strengthening Reef Resilience: Skills & Strategies for Marine Managers"—for marine managers working in coral reef ecosystems.

Held in New Zealand, from July 19–24, 2026, in conjunction with the 2026 International Coral Reef Symposium (ICRS), this program will equip participants with practical skills in climate-smart management and strategic communication.
