The quiet part out loud:
Youth hockey has a retention problem and the industry knows it.
Half the kids who play at 10 are gone by 14. The sport blames everything except the obvious: the cost, the pressure, the adults who make it miserable.
The ones who stay don't stay because of the programs. They stay because they still love it.
Protect that. It's the whole thing.
Nearly every problem we’re seeing in our culture is downstream of the decline in reading. The fact that only 13 percent of kids read for pleasure is a nationwide emergency. There is no more pressing issue than getting kids back into reading.

‘We have money for war but not a penny for schools,’ the politicians lie, especially in places where education investments have been scandalously squandered
Wrote about the dramatic decline in male labor participation and got this note: "I just read your article, Where Have the Men Gone? This, to a degree, is my youngest son. He was in high school when 2020 shut everything down, including his desire to do much of anything. My middle son was the same, but he decided to join the Coast Guard and has found his purpose. I want to help him but I can't send him out to be homeless."

Among my hottest takes are:
- Disney adults (esp with no kids) are ruining it for families by inflating the cost of everything.
- Disney adults should seek therapy to deal with childhood issues, not more trips to Disneyland.
- Disney should not cater to Disney adults. It’s for families. It’s for the kids.
Kentucky Derby Day is one of the rare opportunities we still have to gain new customers, and this creates a terrible impression for those not already familiar with the downsides of betting on our sport. We certainly know how to push them away!
What we just saw in the late betting by CAW'S is what the every day players continues to experience. It's disgusting and thievery-but it won't change that's for sure. But to do it on the biggest days of racing is the CAW's way (or maybe the Japanese sent it on their own CAW platform) or basically sticking it to every player who is sick and tired of this nonsense. But the industry could not care less. Enough said.
Boston’s cutting teachers and running deficits, but don’t worry, there’s still money for “wellness grants” and block parties.
Mayor Wu can’t explain where the money’s going, but she’s definitely spending it.
