It’s a great entry for someone who’s never read manga, because it hits all the usual shonen plot beats. High-stakes opening, detailed power system, training chapters, new heroes/villains for each arc, flashy fight scenes, big final battle.
But… it’s not a very original story.
Speaking as an insider: the reason why it got so popular is because the anime aired right around the same time COVID hit.
Everyone’s at home with nothing to do, so they turn to new means of entertainment.

It's honestly insane how, for its massive popularity, Demon Slayer has literally no wider cultural impact. No iconic poses or attacks. No timeless characters or moments. It just kinda made a lotta money and will likely fade into obscurity once the movies are done releasing.
