Two words.

Stolen generation.

I had my indigenous heritage certified by a board of board of elders, who traced back my family tree and gave me an explanation. I’m very uncomfortable discussing it publicly due to its graphic and violent nature.

I’m not the only indigenous person with this experience and there are many out there who are white passing like me due to the atrocities committed by colonists.

It does not mean we’re any less indigenous. An auntie elder once told me in our community blood is all that matters and it’s up to us to share our stories, our culture and support one another.
