Colorado at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Offers influenza vaccine under general anesthesia to eligible patients since 2020. More than 18,000 patients have received it. Additional vaccines are sometimes given at the request of a primary care clinician

Illinois at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and its ambulatory surgery centers. Offers flu shots under anesthesia for eligible patients age 6 months and older during scheduled surgeries and procedures

California at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center in Northern California. First KP facility in the region to offer flu shots to pediatric surgical patients ages 6 months–18 while under anesthesia for planned procedures

Back in 2017, I read a book called How Democracies Die. Despite being authored by two left wing professors, it's a very, very good book.

The book is about how (mostly) populist movements kill democratic systems. The overwhelming majority of the book covers how right wing movements topple democracies.

It's very well researched and cited, and I enjoyed reading it immensely.

But as I read through all the examples, I couldn't help but wonder: why in the world did these right wing movements wake up one day and decide to destroy these supposedly perfectly stable societies?

It just didn't make sense.

So after I finished the book, I made a list of ten examples in the book to research.

The first thing I found is that these right wing movements were reacting to something. That's why they're called reactionary movements. And what were they reacting to? Socialist or communist movements.

In EVERY SINGLE CASE*, the right wing movement arose in direct response to the rise of a violent socialist or communist movement.

It's an immune reaction.

In EVERY SINGLE CASE*, the socialist or communist movement had either already taken power or was threatening to and, in the latter cases, the right wing movements that took power simply beat the communists to the punch.

The Right took power before the communists did. That's it. That's literally all you need to know about why and how right wing movements take power.

That's how your vaunted democracies die. Not because right wingers wake up one day and, for no reason at all, decide to take power, but because the Far Left threatened to do it first.

What Joel Berry and James Lindsay and all the others should understand (if they don't already), is that if you want to stop the so-called "Woke Right" then the real enemy is the Woke Left.

There is no right wing immune response if there's no cancerous Far Left movement threatening to destroy their country.

There is no reactionary movement if there's nothing to react to.

Why, then, do they spend SO MUCH TIME antagonizing the populist right wing?

The common assumption is that our “extreme” convictions are merely a product of excessive time spent online. This is obviously a dismissive narrative designed to avoid the substance of our arguments.

For most of us our positions are the result of a firsthand, repeated experience.

It’s easy to excuse the misconduct of an individual from a particular group of people as an anomaly, but when that behavior manifests as a recurring pattern that you have witnessed firsthand over and over again reality becomes impossible to ignore.

Of course you don’t *have* to experience it firsthand to witness these patterns, but when you do it’s much easier to accept and stop lying to yourself about it as we have been so conditioned to do.

Stereotypes exist for a reason. They didn’t appear from some “irrational” hatred of our forefathers, but rather from observable patterns of behavior over long periods of time and across generations.

Liberal egalitarianism tells us this is hateful and bad. It demands that you disarm yourself and disregard the wisdom of your forefathers, your gut, and common sense.

Our positions are the logical, unavoidable conclusions drawn by anyone who simply observes these patterns of behavior consistently from certain groups of people and refuses to lie to themselves about what they are seeing. Are there outliers and exceptions? Sure, but they prove the rule and are few and far between.

Your modern liberalized mind will fight against this cold hard truth, trillions of dollars have been spent to ensure that. MANY will never overcome it, but those who do will be the ones who lead us forward out of this mess.

Not always overt violence, but the threat of it. It’s a civilization preserving tool, but only if those who hate your civilization think you’ll actually use it.

If a gun is pointed at you in any part of the world, you know what it means.

Why do you pay your rent? Because if you don’t then you’ll be evicted. If you don’t leave on your own, the police will handcuff you and drag you out of your house and into the street.

Why do you pull over for the police? Because if you don’t they will chase you down and drag you out of your car.

Why does China not invade Taiwan by force? Because of the threat that we will strike them.

What does “international law” really mean? It’s just code for the U.S. Navy. Because if we don’t like what you’re doing we will park it off your shores and do bad things to you.

You get the idea. Violence is the language of humanity. No matter how much the post-war order wishes it wasn’t, it is.

Civilized people must become proficient in the language of violence again, or they will need to become proficient in the verbal languages of those who wish to annihilate them.
