Just to clarify this once and for all because there seems to be some misinformation going around.

Our visit to both senators happened only a few days ago—July 15, 2026, to be exact. It did not happen a month ago.

The only thing from about a month earlier was the gift that happened to be visible in the photo. It was already on the table when we arrived, and some people mistakenly assumed the entire visit took place then.

We also brought our own gifts. The one for the Senate President wasn’t visible in the photo because it had already been placed on his personal desk. Meanwhile, the gift Senator Risa was holding in the photo was our gift.

The Senate team’s media staff also reached out to us before posting the photos and asked if we were comfortable with them sharing them. We gave our consent.

We're simply setting the record straight and clearing up the misunderstanding. The timeline being shared is incorrect, and conclusions were made based on a gift that happened to be in the background. There was no hidden agenda—just an assumption that doesn’t match what actually happened.

I hope this clears up the confusion that this happened a month ago.

@stgatchalian i may not be from sibuyan island, but i come from a province that has also been greatly affected by mining companies. i know firsthand the harmful effects mining can have on the environment and on the community. i hope you can speak out about this, especially since your family is involved. i hope you’ll choose to protect the environment/community over power and money.

in the 19th Congress, Senator Risa Hontiveros filed a Senate Resolution No. 459 directing the appropriate Senate Committee to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation into the nickel and metallic mining activities in Sibuyan Island, Romblon. unfortunately, public record doesn’t seem to show SRN 459 being taken up.

considering recent developments regarding this, including protests from residents and environmental advocates, we respectfully call on Senator Risa Hontiveros, SP Win Gatchalian, and both Houses of Congress in the 20th Congress, to conduct an inquiry into the mining activities in Sibuyan Island.
