Hind Rajab's mom, Wesam, made this brilliant speech on Saturday:

Ladies & gentlemen,
I'll begin with no introductions.
On January 29, 2024, my daughter Hind Rajab was trapped inside a car, under direct fire.

Hind was a five-year-old child.
At that age, children don't think about politics, & don't know the meaning of war.
All they know is fear… & the hope that someone will come to save them.

Hind didn't die suddenly.
Hind waited.
She waited for help,
For her cries to have meaning.

She said:
"I'm scared…come get me."

This isn't a literary phrase.
This is the last thing a child said,
who knew she might not survive.

She said a sentence that tore my heart apart:
"Mom, they're lying. Stay with me!"
At that moment, I realized the betrayal.

An ambulance was sent to her. It didn't arrive. It was bombed.

This means one thing:
Saving a life wasn't allowed.

Today, 2 years later,
I'm not standing here to tell you a sad story.
I am here to speak about responsibility.

I will pose a weighty question:
What is the value of a human life when it is Palestinian?

Because what happened to my daughter Hind,
Had it happened anywhere else, would have shaken the world.

But it was in Gaza.

And that is why time was allowed to pass,
& the crime to be forgotten.

I ask you to imagine, even for a few seconds,
The magnitude of pain that mothers in Gaza carry when they lose their children.

Imagine the bitterness of the pain,
When you cannot save your child,
Or even reach them,
Or know what their final moments were like.

This pain lives with mothers
every day,
& with every breath.

What happened to Hind is not just a personal story.
It reveals how a child can be left to die, before the eyes of the world, without accountability.

You live in countries that believe in the rule of law,
that teach human rights,
& sign agreements to protect children.

But Hind was not protected.
Nor were the paramedics.
Nor was the truth protected.

I don't blame the people of the world,
but I do hold silence responsible.
The silence that makes the crime possible,
& makes its repetition easy.

Your presence here today
means that you have chosen not to be silent.
And that is important.

But what is more important, is what happens after this event.

Will Hind remain just a name at an event?
Or will she become a turning point?

I am not asking for the impossible.
I am asking for something very simple:
That the life of a Palestinian child be protected… as if it were your own child's life.

If the law cannot save a child, then it is a law that needs to be held accountable.

And if the world only acts when the victim resembles its own children, then the world needs a new conscience.

Hind is no longer here.
But her story is a trust.
And a trust is not preserved with words,
But with actions!

• But in the entire 2025, impressions dropped to only 28.6 million total — a 97% crash to <3% of expected reach.

More threats, more bullying; with international justice as battle ground.

How will the 125 States part of the ICC react this time around?

Seriously, there are 125 of them.
And so far, mostly, we have seen appeasement, submission, calls for "dialogue". PATHETIC.

Instead they must / should:
▪Affirm their commitment to protect and strengthen the Rome Statute system and the International Criminal Court within it;
▪ Firmly condemn and oppose the sanctions imposed on the Court by US Executive Order 14203
▪Strongly commit to supporting the ICC, including through engaging with the Court and designated persons to mitigate the effects of the sanctions, so that it can fully continue to execute its independent and impartial mandate and operations;
▪Call on the US government to rescind the sanctions and individual designations of ICC judges and OTP officials; Palestinian human rights organizations and; the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories;
▪Maintain a robust and collective Assembly opposition to sanctions imposed by the USA and oppose any engagement or concessions with the USA on the basis or purported rationale of US Executive Order 14203 - which is founded on the USA’s opposition to the Court’s independent and impartial mandate to conduct investigations where it has territorial jurisdiction.
▪Firmly commit to enacting laws and measures at the national and regional level which would block the extraterritorial effects of the US sanctions law – so called ‘blocking statutes’
▪Recognise that human rights to truth, justice and reparations are the bedrocks for peace, and individual accountability for crimes under international law is non-negotiable in any efforts towards negotiated peace or conflict-resolution outcomes;

And we, civil society, human rights defenders, lawyers, many more of us - will NOT be silent in the face of these threats.

We too will continue to defend the ICC’s ability to exercise its independent mandate and pursue individual accountability, especially with respect to those who are most powerful and would otherwise enjoy the prospect of impunity for crimes under international law.

Growing up in Germany, the Netherlands, and the American Midwest, I was extremely pro-Jewish and extremely pro-Israel. I believed every bit of the narrative we were fed. I even had a Palestinian guy in my class, and whenever he talked about his situation, I’d get angry. I called him an anti-Semite more than once. Looking back, I feel ashamed of how deeply I had internalized that mindset.

I genuinely thought Judaism was the best religion in the world. I even considered converting at one point to support these “poor, prosecuted people”. That’s how far gone I was. And all of that happened without me even knowing any Jews in real life. I had met maybe one or two in my life until a few years ago.

That started to change during my PhD. We had a research partnership with a Hebrew university. The academics we worked with were hardcore Zionists. They talked about Palestinians like animals. Justified the killings. Brushed off the land theft. That’s when the mask began to fall.

I started digging. I learned about the Balfour Declaration, how American Zionists played a role in destabilizing my own country of birth. I learned about the Nakba. How settlers destroyed water wells and entire orchards. How people who had lived there for centuries were treated like subhumans. I saw the ugly truth no one ever talks about.

Even up to October 7th, I still thought: there are good Jews and bad Jews, just like in any group. But since then, what I’ve witnessed is beyond shocking. Almost every Jewish voice I’ve come across, online, in media, in real life, has been defending genocide. Demonizing anyone who dares speak up for Palestinians. Calling people Nazis, animals, anti-Semites, just for standing on the side of humanity.

That kind of moral blackmail used to work on me. Being called an anti-Semite as a German? That was the worst thing you could say. But not anymore. Not after seeing who’s really fueling the hate. Not after hearing the things that are being said… things that sound like they came straight from hell.

What changed me was not hate, it was clarity. I realized Zionism is not about survival but dominance, and it has nothing in common with Christian values, either.

And honestly, what still puzzles me, what I genuinely don’t understand, is why they behave the way they do.

They say they want peace. They say they’ve been hated throughout history, kicked out of country after country, persecuted without reason. But then you look at how they act,right now. They smear anyone who dares to criticize Israel. They slander. They don’t try to make allies, they issue threats. They demand people be canceled. They justify war crimes. They talk about exterminating others.

If they really want to be liked, if they want to live in peace, if they want people to stop criticizing them, then why do they act like this? Why don’t they try kindness, truth, humility? Why not show some decency, some humanity, especially now that the entire world is watching?

It makes no sense, unless domination is the goal. Not peace. Not coexistence.

Because when I listen to people like Mark Levin or Ben Shapiro or that Randy Fine dude, what I hear isn’t just propaganda, but pure venom. It’s a kind of moral filth that feels like it crawled out of hell. The arrogance. The dehumanization. The glee in war and death.

You can’t act like this and expect the world like you. You can’t demand sympathy while trying to silence those who demand the truth. You can’t play eternal victim while behaving like a tyrant. Eventually, people wake up. Just like I did.

On this day, 108 years ago, at the stroke of a colonial pen, the 67 word Balfour Declaration was issued promising our land away, reducing our existence to “non-Jewish communities”, and triggering the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and the ongoing Nakba and dispossession of the Palestinian people.

108 years later, we remain rooted in our land, certain that no declaration made or crime committed can erase our presence on our land.

It is long overdue to recognize, apologize, reparate, and end this historic injustice that befell a colonized, captive, and oppressed people.
