"I can feel the energy around our team... we're just a deeper team now."
Spencer Carbery is already pondering different possible combinations and all his options with the new-look Capitals. He discusses that, how the depth impacts minutes and more:

Ovechkin on returning to the Capitals:
“I’m back! Thank you to everyone for giving me and my family the time to make this decision. I’m healthy. I love playing hockey and competing to win. I’m excited to come back and join my teammates so we can fight for a playoff spot and have a chance to win. See you in September, DC!"
Alex is back.
From the day we drafted him, Ovi has played with unmatched passion, relentless drive, and an unwavering commitment to his teammates, our fans, and our city.
The greatest goal scorer in NHL history isn’t done writing his @Capitals story. Neither are we.
Let’s chase another Cup together. #ALLCAPS 🏒
IT'S SO NOT O-VER, BABES‼️
The Washington Capitals have re-signed captain Alex Ovechkin to a one-year contract extension. Ovechkin’s contract will carry an average annual value of $4.25 million.

Did the @Capitals offseason spending spree mean the end of Alex Ovechkin in Washington?
Not at all, GM Chris Patrick tells me, in our exclusive 1-on-1 on ESPN dot com.
"I think we can do something that would work for Alex. There are ways to get him the money he needs."
The Caps went for it this week. Probably added more fire power and depth than any team. Chris Patrick was aggressive. They’re obviously trying to win big, and win soon.
They traded for two three-time, 30-goal scorers (Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou) last week pre-FA. Both will spend a ton of time in the Caps’ top-six.
WSH continued its shopping spree on day one of free agency today.
F Boone Jenner 4yr ($5.7 AAV)
D Vincent Desharnais 4yr ($4.2M)
D Justin Holl 1yr ($900K)
F Jonny Brodzinski 1yr ($850K)
F Josh Dunne 1yr ($850K)
My questions now include:
1) What does this mean for Ovi. They have a traffic jam of top-nine caliber wings before Ovechkin comes back let alone if he does. I still think he returns but it seems like a lot of additions for a team expecting to have him back.
2) Along those lines, what do all the moves mean for some of the incumbent players. Where does Ryan Leonard fit in after a 20-goal rookie season? What happens with Ethen Frank, who showed a lot last season? Is Miro just never going to get a shot to prove himself? Is Andrew Cristall blocked out of any shot at helping this year?
3) Could the Caps still be looking to trade a piece or two? I’m not sure how Beauvillier fits as an example. He could be somebody they could dangle.
In the end: The Caps are deeper than they’ve been in a while. Assuming LT plays like he has in the past, they should be good enough to go on a playoff run.

So much love for this team.
The youngest team in the WNBA and one of the youngest in league history last night showed what heart, resilience, and belief look like.
Four overtimes. Never gave up. Never lost focus.
So much energy. So much emotional intelligence. An unforgettable game.
Huge credit to our players, coaching staff, and performance team for preparing this group to compete physically and mentally at the highest level.
Proud of the @WashMystics.
