What’s left of your symbol when the mechanism disappears - pressure, counters and rewards - will anyone still repeat it and why?

Herzog gives a clean test. In Encounters, the penguin peels away from the group and walks into a black horizon - no audience, no incentive, as if the gesture has its own vector. And in Cave of Forgotten Dreams, it’s not just “animals on a wall” - it’s those pale, almost alien cave crocodiles: albino - looking bodies drifting in the dark like a reminder that some forms exist outside our usual frames of meaning.

That’s why I’m skeptical of today’s “launch mechanics”: when a format is optimized to trigger fast motion, it’s easy to confuse stimulus with culture. The “meme” becomes packaging for distribution.

So here’s the closing question: can your meme return without the mechanism - like those cave albino crocs, persisting as a weird, durable sign - or does it vanish the moment the system stops pushing it?
