A positive step in the budget is introducing road tax for Electric Vehicles (EVs). However, it could be made fairer by taxing all cars based on weight or size, since heavier, larger vehicles use more energy and thus have a more significant environmental impact. #tax#Budget2025
For what it's worth, I don't hate the Luce. I think its design would be an amazing new direction for, say, Tesla or Hyundai but it's a strange Ferrari. The thing that puzzles me most is why the front wheels are so far back, like it's based on a Golf not a bespoke EV platform.
@SawyerMerritt It's not that it is particularly ugly, the design is fine, but its nothing unique or special about it. It could be any sort of homogenised bar of soap emerging from BYD, Jaicoo or Omoda.
The #Ferrari#Luce could be any five door electric hatchback/crossover thing. It is very powerful, the design is fine, its boring, its inoffensive. There is nothing radical, unique or interesting about it. If they took the badges off it could be anything from a Nissan to a BYD.
I never understood the point of the hybrid PU system. The #F1 cars themselves produce such a tiny proportion of the sports emissions, most is produced by transport and logistics. Why not open it up to V8’s V10’s or V12’s with a set capacity limit powered by sustainable fuels.
After 6 years of careful ownership, without warning, my @UKVolkswagen Golf had complete engine failure. I contacted VW Services and the VW @LookersGroup Dealership. Shocking customer service, I was blamed for the engine failure, they will say anything regardless of the truth.#VW

Some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the #Nissan#GTR is coming back. The bad news is that there is a new #Nissan#Juke and its hideous, but is it worse than the outgoing one?
@Nissan
The new #Renault#Twingo is exactly what an #EV should be, small, efficient, and reasonably priced. Yes the range isn't anything to shout about but as an urban run-about it is perfect. Why would you buy a #Ford Puma EV or #Vauxhall Astra EV if you could buy this for £10,000 less?
#Lotus has now added a 2.0L internal combustion engine into the #Eletre#EV, turning it into a #hybrid. Manufacturers that fully committed to EVs and developed dedicated “skateboard” platforms may find it difficult to reverse course if their EV only strategies prove unsuccessful.
Just watched the #AustraliaGP, a lot of overtaking at the front at the beginning. It’s all so gimmicky and the cars don’t sound any better than the previous generation, they look better though. I am looking forward to watching the #indycar highlights. #f1
#Honda don’t exactly have the best reputation when it comes to supplying new hybrid engines to #Formula1 teams so why didn’t #AstonMartin do some due diligence to find out who was working on this unbelievably complicated high tech engine.
I agree with #Ecclestone, #F1 risks turning into #MarioKart with the “boost” button and other gimmicks. #FormulaOne has always been about the balance between driver talent and technical innovation, but it feels like things have tilted too far in favour of the engineers. #FIA
#BYD sold 18,200 cars in #Europe last month compared to 6,900 in January 2025, that is a 164% increase. Their share of the #European market also surged from 0.7% to 1.9% over the same period. Both the #EU and the #UK need to do more to protect the domestic #automative industry.
Only to a certain extent. We need the industry to be protected by the #Government but to do that we need to ensure that demand is natural and #cars are not forced upon the consumer who are not yet ready to embrace them. #EV#ZEV#UK#EU#China
✍️ In my column for @BusinessGreen, I argue that if we want to safeguard our auto industry tinkering around the edges is not enough. We need radical policy and a dedicated minister who can work across government departments to executive an automotive industrial strategy supported by energy, business and transport needs.

#Stellantis has un-discontinued their diesel range in Europe and are planning to sell existing diesel models for longer than planned. This includes models from their #Vauxhall, #Opel, #Citroen and #peugeot brands. This follows their #EV strategy u-turn a couple of weeks ago.
After spending millions on #EV 718 Cayman and Boxster models, #Porsche is reworking them for ICE power and is considering abandoning the project. Another case of regulators and manufacturers unsuccessfully attempting to push consumers in a direction they are not ready to embrace.
