The year was 1975. Democracy was suspended, opposition leaders were jailed, and the police were searching for a young Narendra Modi across Gujarat. Yet, at just 25 years of age, he chose resistance over silence.
Disguised identities, underground networks, secret missions, and unwavering courage.

During the Emergency, when censorship tried to silence voices, a young Narendra Modi found innovative ways to keep the message alive.
Hasmukh Patel, an RSS worker from Nadiad in Gujarat recalls how Narendra Modi advised them to ensure the literature reached the maximum number of people. Instead of simply distributing pamphlets, he advised karyakartas: "Place the pamphlets where people gather and talk such as at the barber shops, village leaders and to saints, priests, who could distribute them among their devotees." The idea was simple yet powerful, when people read together, they discuss, debate, and spread awareness.
A reminder that in the fight for democracy, courage often goes hand in hand with creativity.

Today is the death anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the nation and placed national interest above all else. The Bharatiya Janata Party continues to uphold this ideal through its guiding motto: "Nation First, Party Next, Self Last."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embodied this principle throughout his public life, consistently urging party workers to do the same. This commitment is clearly reflected in an incident that highlights how these values are translated into governance.
Former Mathura Mayor Dr. Mukesh Aryabandhu recalls an interaction with PM Modi after the 2017 Uttar Pradesh local body elections. Newly elected mayors had gathered to meet the Prime Minister, who shared a powerful message: never allow power, personal relationships, or political affiliations to come in the way of your duty towards the people.
To illustrate this point, he narrated an incident from his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat.
During a major road-widening project in Ahmedabad, a portion of the BJP's own office building stood in the way of the proposed expansion. Officials hesitated, assuming the ruling party's office would receive special treatment, while some even expected the project alignment to be altered.
When the matter reached Narendra Modi, his response was unequivocal: "If the houses and properties of ordinary citizens are being acquired for a project that serves the public, why should the BJP office be treated differently?"
The instruction was clear: the wall would go, and the road would stay.
The road was widened. Public interest prevailed.
For PM Modi, it was a pure matter of principle, placing the nation and its people above party and self. It is this same spirit that Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and the founding leaders of the party stood for.
Tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who lived and ultimately sacrificed his life for the country, without ever compromising on the principle of Nation First.

As PM Modi visits France again, it's worth recalling unique moments when he went far beyond the realm of diplomacy, seeking out the threads of shared history and the deeper human bonds that unite nations and their people.
One such moment came during his first visit to France as Prime Minister in 2015, when PM Modi made a special effort to include a visit to the Neuve-Chapelle Indian Memorial in his official programme. Dedicated to Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the First World War, the memorial stands as a tribute to their sacrifice on French soil.
PM Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to pay homage at the memorial.

Former Nagaland Chief Minister S. C. Jamir, who in his early days served as Parliamentary Secretary to Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, offers a unique perspective as Narendra Modi completes 4399 days in office, becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister of India in continuous elected tenure.
Jamir draws an interesting distinction between the two leaders. "Panditji was a philosopher. Modi ji is a practical man. That's the difference," he says.
Jamir points out that PM Modi's approach is marked by him getting involved personally in issues. “Nehru largely worked through officers and institutions, whereas Modi engages directly,” he says. “If you raise an issue with him, he addresses it personally without intermediaries.” This direct approach gives Modi firsthand knowledge of challenges across the country, including in the North East, whereas many concerns during Nehru’s time often did not reach the Prime Minister through layers of administration, says Jamir.
“In those days, we were heavily influenced by British etiquette and administrative culture. Today we have our Indian model, making Prime Minister Modi far more accessible. Modi ji speaks openly and expresses freely, unlike many of his predecessors,” says Jamir.
He also points to the shift in India's economic philosophy. “The Nehru government followed a Russian model of planned economy. Everything was controlled through licences. Therefore we could not develop like we are doing now under PM Modi,” he says. Jamir acknowledges that under PM Modi's leadership, this shift in economic policy is helping India emerge as one of the world's fastest growing major economies.
S.C. Jamir adds, "The Northeast was neglected for far too long. When Modi ji took office, he gave unprecedented attention to this underdeveloped region. The scale of funding and development support we receive today is something we could hardly have imagined earlier. When I was Chief Minister, budgets often ran into just 10-20 crores. But today the investments are on an entirely different scale."
"One of the most significant achievements for Prime Minister Modi's leadership has been the progress in the Naga peace process. For the first time, Naga underground groups agreed to sign two landmark political agreements," says Jamir.

Heartiest congratulations to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
Regardless of political affiliation, few would dispute that this period has witnessed transformative changes: the expansion of national highways, railways, airports and rural connectivity; the rise of Digital India and UPI, which have revolutionised everyday transactions; the delivery of welfare benefits directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts; rapid electrification and household connectivity; a stronger focus on infrastructure in border and North-Eastern regions; and India’s enhanced profile on the global stage.
These achievements have touched the lives of millions and reshaped how governance and public services are delivered.
As India advances towards Viksit Bharat 2047, this milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on a decade of change, progress, and nation-building.

As Gujarat marked 50 years of its formation, the then Chief Minister of the state, Narendra Modi, chose to answer this in a unique way. On June 7th 2010, at the Mahatma Mandir site in Gandhinagar, he sealed and interred a 90 kg Time Capsule containing the story of Gujarat's first five decades.
Built to last for 1,000 years, the capsule preserved key moments from Gujarat's history, culture and development. Recorded in Gujarati, Hindi, English and Sanskrit, it contained important historical documents, speeches linked to the state's formation, and audio-visual records capturing Gujarat's journey since 1960.
Narendra Modi took this initiative as he believed that the progress of the people and the preservation of their story must go hand in hand. The #TimeCapsule ensures that future generations will also understand the ideas, achievements and people who shaped the state's rise.
Buried beneath Mahatma Mandir, the capsule remains a symbol of foresight and continuity, carrying Gujarat's story from one generation to another across the centuries.

India’s #IncomeTax system has become simpler and more transparent in recent years under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Earlier, a complex web of exemptions made tax filing difficult for the common citizen, often leading to confusion and delays.
“PM Modi suggested the idea of giving taxpayers a choice between the old and new tax systems, making the process more flexible and easier. The idea was to make taxation simple, so that a person can calculate and pay taxes on their own without complexity or dispute,” says Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Former Finance Secretary of India.
Today, filing returns is quick and hassle free, with pre-filled forms, faceless processes, and faster refunds. From today, April 1, with the new financial year and updated income tax provisions coming into effect, compliance becomes even more streamlined and taxpayer friendly.
This Day in History — 31st March 1959
On this day, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama entered India after a courageous and arduous journey across the Himalayas, seeking refuge and hope amidst challenging times.
Arunachal Pradesh, particularly Tawang and Bomdila, became a sacred passage in this historic journey, a moment that continues to hold deep spiritual and historical significance for our people.
We remember this day with reverence, reflecting on the values of compassion, resilience and peace that His Holiness has shared with the world.🙏

Remembering the immortal Hutatmas — Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, who fearlessly challenged the might of the British Empire and laid down their lives for Bharat.
Their courage in the face of colonial oppression and their unwavering commitment to freedom ignited a revolution in the hearts of millions.
Let us honour their legacy by upholding the spirit of sacrifice, courage, and national pride.

With the passing of the Arunachal Pradesh Budget 2026–27, I extend my sincere gratitude to all Hon’ble colleagues for their valuable suggestions and constructive participation.
This year’s budget has been presented in an evolving fiscal scenario following the recommendations of the 16th Finance Commission. It provides us with an opportunity to further strengthen fiscal discipline, reorient our thinking, and manage our resources with greater efficiency and responsibility. We must also expand our avenues of revenue generation, close systemic leakages, and continue improving governance mechanisms.
The budget has been carefully designed to meet the aspirations of our people while laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth and a more self-reliant Arunachal Pradesh.
I place on record my deep appreciation for Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein Ji for presenting a thoughtful, balanced, and forward-looking budget.
