The people advocating socialism in the United States are illustrative of the psychological concept of relative deprivation. Envious of others in the US perceived to be better off than themselves but more fortunate than the vast majority of the people around the world.
Elon Musk has benefited society like no one in memory. He has brought beneficial technologies to market and created good employment for countless people.
About 1 in 8 American adults are taking weight-loss pills or injectables. The data I’ve seen indicate that once a person quits the medication the weight often goes back up.
@GeraldoRivera Agree. Whether the LA mayor’s primary was fair or fraud I don’t know but when late ballots change the outcome it raises suspicion. Moreover, the statistical probability of what occurred is long tail.
Irrespective of the validity of the primary election for LA mayor, which I don’t know, the mail-in ballots arriving 6-7 days after Election Day raise suspicion. One candidate’s substantial lead for a place in the run-off was wiped out by late-arriving one-sided mail-in ballots.
@BklynBckstretch You are knowledgeable about horse racing so your articles will have depth. Do you or Times Union decide what you will write about…or both?
One of the most despicable political ads I’ve seen is running in Ohio. US Senate candidate Sherrod Brown is trying to tie his opponent Jon Husted to Jeffrey Epstein via guilt-by-association. Husted accepted donations from Leslie Wexner; therefore Husted and Epstein are linked.
Came across a website that buys used books named World of Books. Their offer on a 2026 book I paid $39 for retail is $3.50. No thanks…will trade in at an independent bookstore near me.
An article in today’s WSJ is titled “Scientists Figured Out How Fast the Universe is Expanding.” Mind boggling article. Says “The most precise measurement of the expansion rate ever made suggests an unknown force may be affecting the cosmos.”
The Ortiz brothers came in first and second in yesterday’s running of the KY Derby. The intra-family rivalry is similar to competition between the now-retired Williams sisters in tennis and the Harbaugh brothers in the NFL.
The US national debt has exceeded GDP…a level seen during WW II. There will eventually will be consequences for our spendthrift ways. With the Congress divided and hostile toward unity, reasons for optimism are scant. A future president and Congress will be forced to act.
Many of the posts on social media are alarming. Rather than discuss issues and policies in a civil manner, posters resort to hostility and personal attacks on people they don’t like or don’t agree with. These posters are mostly anonymous and obviously are full of hate and anger.
In the past several weeks, I’ve seen a plethora of people expounding on who the 32 NFL teams should select in last week’s college draft and a different group expounding on which horse will win the KY Derby. Lots of putative experts.
Current issue of Forbes lists “The 250 Greatest Self-Made Americans.” Three prominent racehorse owners are on the list—Mike Repole, Kenny Troutt, and Vincent Viola. Repole’s Renegade is the likely 2026 KY Derby favorite.
